Back flow protection and the law
In the UK, there are Regulations where the requirement for backflow protection is described:
- Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (England and Wales) 1999
- Water Byelaws / Water Supply (Water Fittings) (Scotland) 2014
- Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009.
These regulatory guidelines require the use of appropriate and adequate backflow prevention devices and methods to protect against the backflow of contaminated water into the potable water supply. These devices may include check valves, double-check valves, reduced pressure zone (RPZ) valves, and air gaps, depending on the level of risk and the specific application.
